On the 1st March, 2018, RISE’s MEP Manager Cydonie Riley and Project Manager Isabelle Hosford attended the first Construction News InspireMe workshop which launched the InspireMe campaign. The primary aim of the campaign is to empower women with knowledge and confidence to advance their careers to senior positions within the construction sector.
The sell-out event titled “Leadership Knows No Gender” was attended by women in all roles in the construction industry and despite the unwelcoming “Beast from the East” the venue remained full to capacity throughout the morning.
Isabelle and Cydonie were impressed by the guest speakers who were truly inspiring. Isabelle said, “Beth West, Head of Development at LandSec struck a particular chord with both of us as she described behaviours we had experienced first-hand in the industry”. The overwhelming tone of the day was positive and inspirational.
The ambassadors of InspireMe wish to re-iterate that the campaign is not another female only networking group but an opportunity for both genders to realise the reasons why women are so underrepresented in the industry and particularly in the boardroom. With that in mind, RISE look forward to attending the next event with some of our male directors to help promote gender equality in the industry.
