RISE lends a helping hand

Over the past couple of months RISE staff have been using some of their volunteering days to help at Deptford Reach in South London. Deptford Reach is a day centre that provides free drop in advice as well as a safe and warm environment for anyone who wishes to use the services. Whether it is a hot shower, laundry service or to eat the fabulous food that is cooked freshly each day, places like these are vital in supporting homeless, vulnerable and marginalised adults in our communities.

RISE staff have been helping in the kitchen with the wonderful Naomi who creates the most delicious food served at breakfast and lunch. Whether it has been cleaning pots and pans or peeling 20kg of potatoes, our staff have really rolled up their sleeves to make the most of their time at the centre.  RISE COO, Nigel Morley happily tidied the kitchen’s store room, washed up and unwrapped a lot of packs of butter.  Nigel said of his day “it was really humbling to spend the day at Deptford Reach and see the amazing work the team does down there, adding I think I got off lightly!”.

The next cohort of RISE volunteers includes Christine, a qualified yoga teacher, who will be using her time there to run some yoga classes at the centre.

There is always a plethora of duties to be done at Deptford Reach, therefore if you can spare a day to volunteer or make a donation the centre is always grateful for the extra help and support.
