On Friday 11th of November we held a workshop for the Rosary Primary School. Our Pegasus Life Hampstead Green Place project is adjacent to the school. We have have taken advantage of the opportunity to teach the pupils about the construction industry. Friday’s session focused on women in construction. Alma, Francesca, Christine and myself attended from RISE, with help from Danielle from Duggan Morris, Bianca from Wilson James Logistics, and Kim & Belinda from Artel scaffolding.
Firstly we responded to a Q&A by the pupils about our job roles. They asked us how we ended up working in construction, and what we like most about our jobs.
We then split the pupils into groups for some construction related activities. One group built a mini model of the Hampstead Green Place project. Another group built the highest structure with spaghetti and marshmallows. The third group had to build the highest structure which could hold the weight of an orange with of newspapers and tape. The kids had a ball, as did we, and hopefully we taught them some valuable lessons.
As the project progresses we are planning to hold more sessions with the school.
